Towards the end of the year, UNS Chemistry adds one professor
Towards the end of the year, a new professor of the chemistry study program at Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta was officially inaugurated in the UNS Open Academic Senate Session, Wednesday (15/12/2021). the professor is Prof. Dr. Sayekti Wahyuningsih, S.Si. M.Si.,
The inauguration was held offline at the G.P.H. Auditorium. Haryo Mataram UNS. In addition, the event was also broadcast online via Zoom Cloud Meeting and the UNS Youtube channel. The opening of the open session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Adi Sulistiyono as Chair of the Academic Senate. With the inauguration of the professor, currently the number of Professors of FMIPA UNS is 20.
Chair of the Board of Professors, Prof. Suranto said that the title can be called professor or professor. Unlike the professors in other institutions.
“A professor is definitely a professor, but a professor is not necessarily a professor. This is because you have an attachment to the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. Hopefully future research can be devoted and implemented in teaching. I hope that the presence of four professors will be an extraordinary strength and continue to work for UNS,” said Prof. Suranto when giving a speech.
Meanwhile, the Chancellor of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho advised that the newly inaugurated professors can continue to work and be productive and can continue to develop their fields of knowledge through the Tri Dharma of Higher Education activities.
“UNS not only creates an intellectual climate freeze, but UNS is also able to create a climate of academic freedom and provide room for expression for professors to be more productive. Once again, I wish you good luck and success,” said Prof. Jamal closed the speech.
Prof. Dr. Sayekti Wahyuningsih, S.Si. M.Si. who is the 241st professor of UNS and 19th FMIPA UNS delivered an inaugural speech with the title Photocatalyst Material: Challenges and Potential for Development in Indonesia. Prof. Sayekti said, starting from translating the word, photo means light energy, while catalyst is a compound/material that initiates a reaction so photocatalyst is a reaction that runs with the help of light or light. The photocatalyst material receives light energy and is used for the electronic transition (electron transfer) from electrons in the ground state to the excited state. In photocatalyst semiconductor materials, the valance band (VB) is the ground state, and the conduction band (CB) is the excited state. Photocatalyst technology is an environmentally friendly technology (green technology). The use of photocatalyst technology is very suitable to be applied in tropical countries that get a lot of sun exposure.
In the Inorganic Materials Research group (RG), it focuses on the preparation of inorganic materials including separation and purification of natural inorganic materials, synthesis of nanomaterials and composites, and functionalization of inorganic materials. Furthermore, it is directed to the application of photocatalyst materials, DSSC’s, self-cleaning materials, drug delivery systems, separation technology. “Specifically in the development of photocatalyst materials, what we describe on this occasion includes aspects of separation and purification of inorganic mineral natural materials, synthesis of inorganic materials and optimization of nanostructures and development of inorganic material applications. There are at least three natural resources that have been developed for photocatalyst materials, namely iron sand, silica sand, and ilmenite,” explained Prof. Sayekti.
