COMMUNITY SERVICE IN TRI DHARMA PERGURUAN TINGGI THROUGH HIMAMIA MENGABDI 2022
One of the problems in the field of education is the low ability in writing, reading, and arithmetic in early childhood. This certainly has a big effect on children’s learning performance in school. It becomes difficult for children to understand the material given by the teachers. In addition to problems in the education sector, there are also problems in the health sector, namely the lack of health information about disease prevention and management in the community. As a form of concern, HIMAMIA FMIPA UNS held a series of community service activities, namely HIMAMIA Serving. This activity is expected to form a sense of sympathy and establish relations between HIMAMIA and the community. Apart from that, it is also hoped that this activity can improve effective communication skills for chemistry students at FMIPA UNS.
Community service in the tri dharma of higher education is essentially aimed at helping the community to be willing and able to meet their own needs. Against the backdrop of the still large number of village potentials that have not been properly and optimally empowered and the low level of community welfare in rural areas, chemistry students at FMIPA UNS were moved to help and share their knowledge in the fields of health and education through HIMAMIA Serving activities.
Himamia Mengabdi, which is chaired by Syamsul Huda, is carried out offline in accordance with the health protocol that is still in effect. This activity was carried out from 3 July 2022 to 14 August 2022 in Kricikan Hamlet, Rejosari Village, Gondangrejo District, Karanganyar Regency. The activities that have been carried out are in the form of teaching classes, counseling, games, and ending with the provision of basic necessities and mementos to the community.
“I am happy and grateful to be part of the Himamia Serving, I learned the importance of helping others, sharing kindness and happiness, and indeed there are still many of our brothers who have not been able to get adequate education. From here, I hope this activity can benefit the residents of Dukuh Kricikan and for ourselves, and hopefully in the future himeng can be even better, can have a more positive impact on society,” said Syamsul Huda, chairman of the Himamia Serving committee.
Working closely with KSR (Volunteer Corps) in the context of outreach to parents makes HIMAMIA Mengabdi activities even more meaningful. KSR are PMI volunteers who are trained and have attended education according to PMI standards and are the backbone of PMI in every movement carried out in the field. This outreach activity is aimed at parents. The counseling was held twice, namely on 16 July 2022 and 30 July 2022.
Apart from being filled with very useful activities, HIMAMIA Mengabdi also has other fun that can be a place to get closer to children. The fun is like holding games, watching movies, and doing simple experiments. Games and watching movies are carried out after teaching so as to give a fresh impression to the children after the learning process. Not only that, other forms of excitement can be experienced during experimental activities such as making soap. The materials used in the experiment are of course safe for children. This experiment is a form of application of knowledge possessed by Chemistry students at FMIPA UNS.
Not only mingling with the children in Kricikan Hamlet, the HIMAMIA Mengabdi committee also got closer to the surrounding community. This can be seen during the peak implementation of HIMAMIA Mengabdi which coincided with various competitions held in order to welcome the 77th Indonesian Independence Day. The peak of the activity was carried out 3 days before independence, namely on August 14 2022 which was lively because it was attended by all elements of society from children to adults. The activities included gymnastics, healthy walking together, competitions, and distribution of door prizes.
